Malignant Melanoma, juxtapapillary

Malignant Melanoma, juxtapapillary
This black elevated choroidal tumor also involves the upper part of the optic disc. On its surface, but underneath the retina an orange-colored pigment, lipofuscin is deposited. Although initially thought to be typical for malignant melanomas subretinal lipofuscin is observed with choroidal tumors, be they malignant or benign (nevi), or even melanocytomas. Careful long-term observation is needed.
